Tracy Ayling KC and Alex Stein, instructed by Andrew Young at the CPS Complex Case Unit, prosecuted the double murder trial at Chelmsford Crown Court before Mr Justice Lavender and a jury. D’Wit was unanimously convicted of killing Carol Baxter and Stephen Baxter by poisoning after a six week trial involving complex toxicology and computer analysis evidence.
On 22nd March he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 37 years. The case was aggravated by his controlling and manipulative treatment of the victims over many months.
