Barry Gilbert instructed by Quality Solicitors defended D who was indicted at Gloucester Crown Court with two others on charges of Inflicting Grievous Bodily Harm and Perverting the Course of Justice. The victim had been attacked with weapons and when the police found him he had had his eyes stapled closed with an industrial stapler. It was alleged that he had subsequently been threatened with death if he dared to give evidence. Following cross-examination by Mr Gilbert the victim conceded that, contrary to the prosecution allegations, D had done nothing at all. The prosecution offered no evidence and D was acquitted, with costs.
