The Legal 500 UK Awards 2021

Chambers is delighted to have received a total of 72 recommendations in the 2021 edition of the Legal 500 directory released today.

Chambers was recognised as a leading set in nine practice areas (Business & Regulatory crime, General Crime, Criminal Fraud, Health & Safety, Inquests & Inquiries, Environment, Sport, Police Law, and Professional Discipline & Regulatory), and 39 individual members (15 QCs and 24 juniors) were recommended as leaders in those fields.

The guide described 2 Bedford Row as a ‘Powerhouse’, ‘blue chip’ chambers, and as ‘the Rolls-Royce of criminal sets’, ‘bursting with heavyweight counsel’, and ‘packed full of talented juniors with bags of potential’. The Guide also described Chambers as ‘first choice for white-collar crime’ and noted that “in addition to its expertise in fraud and business and regulatory crime, the set also has ‘a strong presence and pedigree’ in the field of health and safety law”.

The Guide also had particular praise for the clerks, commenting “The busy clerks’ room provides ‘a strong personal service’ under the leadership of ‘model’ senior clerk John Grimmer, who is ‘a master of the craft’ and combines ‘the very best traditions of the old-fashioned clerk (approachable, good humoured, and diplomatic) with the sharpest business brain going’; ‘his own high standards are maintained by the clerks he manages because he simply won’t tolerate anything less’. The ‘excellent’ Paul Rodgers is ‘very knowledgeable, efficient and helpful’; the ‘enthusiastic’ Lee Bartlett is ‘approachable, professional, and supportive’, ‘quickly resolving any problems that arise’; and ‘go-to’ clerk Joe Martin is ‘attentive, dedicated, and always willing to go that extra mile’.”
