Austin Stoton prosecuted Tata Steel UK Ltd for offences contrary to ss. 2 & 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

A 26 year old electrician died when an overhead crane trapped and partially crushed him as it passed over the inspection cage that he was working in. The crane then reversed and passed over the electrician a second time. He died of his injuries shortly thereafter. This complex case arose from events in the middle of a busy production area where there were different production operations taking place.

The company was fined £1.4M and ordered to pay £140,000 in costs.
