Richard Whittam QC chaired the RFU disciplinary panel that heard the allegation of foul play against Chris Ashton

Richard Whittam QC chaired the RFU independent disciplinary panel at Twickenham on Thursday 23 August that heard the allegation of foul play against Chris Ashton.

The player had been sent off by Roman Poite in the 46th minute of the pre-season fixture between Castres Olympique and Sale Sharks on Friday 17 August 2018. This was for foul play against Rory Kockott [who was also sent off] contrary to law 9.18 [A player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body make contact with the ground].

The panel found the case proved and he was suspended from playing for seven weeks.
