R v Joanne Mjadzelics

Michael Wolkind QC represented the former girlfriend of the Lost Prophets singer, Ian Watkins, now serving 35 years in prison. Joanne Mjadzelics was accused of sharing extreme indecent photographs with him. Michael relied on the defence of “legitimate reason” for her admitted possession.

The Defence was an outright attack on various police forces who dealt with Watkins and Mjadzelics. Michael persuaded the Jury that the police failure to investigate promptly Watkins’ abuse of children justified Mjadzelics gathering her own evidence to trap him.
