John Grimmer

John Grimmer joined Chambers in 1975, and was appointed Senior Clerk in 1984.

In addition, John served as Clerk to the Attorney General of England, Wales and Northern Ireland from 1997-1999.

John was shortlisted for “Senior Clerk of the Year” at the Chambers & Partners Awards 2022.

The Chambers Bar Guide 2017 says, “Legendary senior clerk John Grimmer” is described by clients as “one of the key clerks at the Criminal Bar and second to none.”

The Chambers Bar Guide 2017 also said, “what senior clerk John Grimmer doesn’t know about clerking isn’t worth knowing.”

The Chambers UK Bar Guide 2016 said of John, “he is particularly praised for being very organised and running a tight ship.”

In September 2016 The Legal 500 shortlisted John for “Senior Clerk of the year.”

The Legal 500 2015 commented that John was “the senior clerk to the Criminal Bar and King-maker to many of the Bar’s brightest stars.”  They also commented that he is “one of the reasons solicitors go to the set in the first place” and that John was “trustworthy and honest and his customer service skills are exemplary.”

Chambers Directory 2012 describes John’s “peerless clerking” and being “one of the best rainmakers in the business”. He is recognised “as one of the most respected and long-serving clerks who enjoys a matchless reputation amongst his contemporaries”.
