Pump Court

Cannabis farm acquittal

Cases 21 Mar 12

Barry Gilbert acted for a man who was one of three defendants facing trial at Ipswich Crown Court concerning commercial cultivation of cannabis on a very large-scale cannabis farm in Suffolk. The client raised duress, stating that he had been coerced to become involved because of serious threats to his safety. His two co-defendants, who were represented by other counsel, pleaded guilty and Mr Gilbert’s client was unanimously acquitted by the jury. Mr Gilbert was instructed in this matter by Shiobain Egan from Lewis Nedas and Co Solicitors, who described counsel as “the Ubermeister tactician”.
