Brian Altman QC has led the prosecution of Russell Bishop for the ‘Babes in the Wood’ murder trial. Although Bishop was tried and acquitted of the murders of 9-year-old Karen Hadaway and Nicola Fellows in Brighton in 1986, the acquittals were quashed in the Court of Appeal in December 2017, and a retrial ordered under the double jeopardy rules based on new and compelling evidence. Bishop was convicted after only a two-and-a-half hour retirement following a 9 week case and was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 36 years.
