Pupillage

2 Bedford Row offers 4 or 5 funded pupillages per annum.  Pupils will receive a total of £10,000 over the course of their twelve months in chambers, and retain all their earnings, which can be substantial, from their practising second six.

Each pupil will have two pupil supervisors in their first six, and a different two in their second six. This system ensures that all pupils get exposed to as many different types of work as possible and aims to provide each pupil with a thorough grounding in all aspects of criminal practice.

We aim to recruit from our own pupils: in the last five years we have generally offered tenancies to two pupils per year.  Those who have not been successful, have almost invariably found a tenancy in good chambers elsewhere.

Chambers accepts applications for Pupillage through the OLPAS scheme. Please go to www.pupillages.com

Chambers looks to recruit pupils who display the following qualities:

1. A commitment to criminal law

2.  A sound academic background

3.  Are persuasive in both written and oral argument

4.  Have a passion and flair for advocacy

In selecting our pupils, 2 Bedford Row has a 2 stage interviewing process.  The 1st round interview is a 10 - 15 minute informal interview conducted by a small panel of tenants.  This interview aims to get to know you better and questions are generally based on the OLPAS form.

If invited for a 2nd round interview, the candidate will be given an advocacy exercise to perform e.g. a plea in mitigation.  This will be followed by a more rigorous and demanding 20 minute interview, conducted by a larger panel of tenants.

Third six pupillage applications will be considered.  Chambers welcomes Third six pupillage applications which are considered throughout the year. Applications should be sent to Jamas Hodivala at jhodivala@2bedfordrow.co.uk . Paper applications cannot be accepted.  All 3rd six pupils are eligible to apply for tenancy on completion of their 3rd six.

Mini Pupillage
Chambers welcomes applications for mini-pupillage. Please email your CV with covering letter to Sandesh Singh, ssingh@2bedfordrow.co.uk. Priority is given to applications from undergraduates and above and should be made at least 6 months in advance. In the case of placements during university vacations you are advised to apply more than 6 months in advance. Please do not apply if you are under 18 years of age.
