Overview


Margaret Dodd’s practice is almost exclusively in crime, both prosecuting and defending.

Following pupillage, Margaret spent 10 years employed as a Deputy Chief Clerk with the Inner London Magistrates Court Service. In 1990 she returned to practice at the Bar, initially in the Chambers of Andrew Mitchell QC and since 1996 as a tenant at 2 Bedford Row.

  • R v I: Successfully defending an optician facing serious allegations of domestic violence.

Murder & Manslaughter


Cases

  • R v Coates & Graves: Junior counsel for the prosecution in a trial lasting six months. It involved a lorry driver who fell asleep at the wheel of his lorry, having been driving continuously for 36 hours, causing a fatal collision. His co-defendant, his employer was charged with gross negligence manslaughter.

Serious Sexual Offences


During her career Margaret has dealt with challenging and demanding cases; she has in particular handled many involving serious sexual offending.

Margaret is on the list of approved rape prosecutors in London and Essex.

Cases

  • R v P: Junior counsel, successfully defending a mother accused with her stepfather of raping her two children.
  • R v P: Prosecuting a father charged with historic rape of four of his daughters by two separate wives.
  • R v G & M: Prosecuting two youths aged 13 and 14 accused of raping a twelve year old complainant.
  • R v Asif: Defending a serving police officer charged with rape. The case attracted national publicity.
