SFO Prosecution of 6 Solicitors for Fraud
Nigel Lithman QC and Valerie Charbit successfully represented a Midlands solicitor, KM , charged with substantial mortgage fraud. An acquittal was obtained in this matter following a trial lasting 4 months at Southwark. The Defendant a practising solicitor had not guilty verdicts entered by The Judge, after a jury in retirement for two weeks failed to reach a verdict.
This Serious Fraud Office (SFO) prosecution relied on over 68000 pages of evidence served electronically and alleged that four major banks/building societies had loaned £50million on the basis of false valuations, fictitious leases and corrupt conveyancing, most of the money was transferred to Pakistan.
The prosecution followed disciplinary proceedings before The Solicitors Regulatory Authority (SRA).
