Ian Stern Q.C., leading Sandesh Singh, represented Specialist Firearms Officers C2 and C12 at the inquest into the death of Jean Charles De Menezes last year. The Assistant Deputy Coroner, Sir Michael Wright Q.C., ruled that a verdict of ‘unlawful killing’ should not be left to the jury, who eventually returned an ‘open’ verdict. The Crown Prosecution Service has now re-confirmed that neither officer will face criminal prosecution for any offence arising out of the incident. The Coroner’s decision in relation to verdicts was subject to an appeal, which has now been withdrawn.
